About Us

"The widest selection of oysters in the city... this casual restaurant feels like a pub but tastes like fine dining."

Named after the waterfront district in San Francisco, Embarcadero means "wharf" or "landing place" in Spanish. With the widest selection of oysters in the city, we feature at least six varieties of northern Atlantic and Pacific fresh oysters on the half shell.

Imaginative gourmet offerings are featured daily. For the wine lover, an extensive wine list and a continually changing selection of wines by the glass are available, personally selected by the owner/manager, a member of the International Sommelier Guild.

The stately, historic red brick house with lovely architectural details features a main floor European-style wine bar, and a second floor Gallery dining room featuring original Asian artworks. Our south-facing brick-paved patio is an ideal summertime retreat.

Join us for the Big Taste

March 2 to 11 we are offering 3-course lunch and dinner menus for $18 per person at lunch and $40 per person at dinner. Reservations required, As our regular menu is also available, please mention the Big Taste Menu when making your reservation to help us prep sufficient quantities. The Big Taste lunch menu is available weekdays until 3pm, and the Big Taste dinner menu is available from 7pm on March 2 and 4pm all other days.

Thursday, November 23 we are offering Winter's Free range turkey with all the trimmings, $22/person. Available for lunch or dinner, from 11am, dine-in or takeout. Work on South side almost finished

Sidewalks are being installed on the south side of 17th. North side is complete. Access is still only one lane westbound on 17th, it will remain that way until work is complete, likely by the end of October.

August 2017
Work on North side almost complete

Sidewalks and street lamps have been installed on the north side of 17th and the construction zone has moved to the south side. Traffic is now one lane westbound only. PDF Parking and Access

July 2017
Sidewalk reconstruction

Road work is completed but sidewalks, tree wells and telephone pole removal is ongoing and traffic is still one lane eastbound only. Pedestrians should walk between the cones on the road as directed until sidewalk construction is complete.

 
Roads fully open during Stampede

Road construction on 17th Avenue is paused over Stampede until July 16, and on-street parking is available on our block. Construction will resume on July 17 with sidewalk construction, removal of telephone poles and tree planting.

May 2017
Road closures over the Victoria Day weekend

1 St SE will be closed at 17th Avenue and detoured to Centre St. One lane eastbout on 17th is open, and both sidewalks remain open. May Road Closure

Parking and access during road construction

Road construction on 17th Ave between north and southbound Macleod is expected to continue until September 2017. 17th Avenue is reduced to one lane, eastbound only, and sidewalks remain open.

GROUPS: Sit-down table service

The Embarcadero is available for booking private parties. A full range of a/v and presentation equipment is available. Customized menus can be used - just choose four or five entree selections in the desired price range, and we can draw up a menu for your function complete with company name and event.

The upstairs Gallery Dining Room is ideally suited for functions of up to 45 people: for birthday and retirement parties, Christmas or holiday dinners, Stampede breakfasts, stags/stagettes, wedding rehearsal dinners and small wedding receptions. Private room bookings subject to availability. There is no separate room charge, but minimum food and beverage purchases are sometimes required to book the room privately at times when we expect to be full.   • Main floor, seats up to 22

  • Upstairs large table, seats up to 24

  • Upstairs multiple tables, seats up to 45

  • Upstairs small group, one end, seats 10 to 16

Custom menus for dinners and luncheons have two advantages. The food arrives faster as the selections can be anticipated in advance, and the cost is within a desired budget - useful if one person or company is hosting, due to the wide range of menu prices.

CUSTOM MENUS

Generally, the courses are available as follows:

  • Cocktail appetizers in a variety selected beforehand in quantities from $6 to $10 per person,
  • Starter course (usually soup or salad),
  • Entree from a list of 4 or 5 choices pre-selected from the menu,
  • Dessert either pre-selected options or a variety platter.

Guests would be presented with a customized, half-page menu with company name and event and list of choices. Depending on items selected, the cost of this option ranges from $20 to $70 per person.

Prices for items are as per menu prices, and are charged as ordered. We do this because there can be a wide range of prices for the desired items, and for hosted events there is no benefit in a uniform price per person as long as the overall cost fits within the budget.

We can adjust portions and selections to have fixed per-person prices for non-hosted events if necessary. For group bookings, items other than those on the menu can be arranged, subject to availability of product and sufficient notice. Including starter, main course and dessert options.

Groups: Cocktail Parties

Private room bookings subject to availability. There is no separate room charge, but minimum food and beverage purchases are sometimes required to book the room privately at times when we expect to be full.

Stand-up cocktail-style service is available for up to 100 people upstairs. A selection of finger foods is specified, or alternatively, we can suggest a selection for you based on your budget and style of gathering. We would develop the budget for a cocktail-style function based on the following:

  • Food selection
  • Beverage style (open bar or limited selection)
  • Number of invitees
  • Duration of the event

Typically food for about half the expected number of attendees will be provided at the outset and replenished as consumed, and are offered on trays as well as arranged on side tables. Beverages can either be ordered at the bar or servers can take orders from the floor.

Food and beverages are charged as served. Generally consumption is higher with full service of food and beverages. A typical budget for a 2 to 3-hour evening function is $15 to $30 per person for food, and an average of two drinks per person or 12 in beverages. tax and gratuity is additional.

NOTE! WHEN DINING PRIOR TO AN EVENT: If everyone orders at about the same time, food may take up to an hour for the last few tables that order. Please allow for additional time to dine prior to events. We recommend at least 2 hours prior to the start of the event for hockey, 2.5 hours prior to concerts or Stampede events. Pre-event bookings for large groups only accepted if group is having a meal, i.e. reservations not accepted for drinks & apps.
